아이들이
벌써 뜯어놨더라구요.
저희집
막둥이는 엄마가 뭔가에 당첨이 되어서 이 선물이 도착할 줄 안답니다.
저녁에
무자막으로 일단 한번 틀어줬어요.
"아~~나
이거 알아? 망원경...해봤어."하네요.

처음에 몇 번을 들어도 모르겠던데

어쩜 이런

아하~~이책을 바탕으로 만들어진 dvd란걸 알게
되었어요.

작가할아버지에 대해서도 좀 찾아
읽어보았어요.
데이비드
맥컬레이는 영국의 디자이너이다. 1946년 영국에서 태어나 12세 되던 해 가족과 함께 미국뉴저지 주으로 삶의 터전을 옮겼다. 그리고 새로운
환경에 적응하는 방법으로 그림을 그리기 시작했다. 로드 아일랜드 디자인 학교에서 건축학 전공한 후 로마 폼페이 등지에서도 공부를 했으며, 짧은
기간 인테리어 디자이너와 고등학교 교사, 프리랜서 일러스트레이터로
일했다.
David Macaulay (born December 2, 1946) is
a British-born American
illustrator and writer. His most famous works include Cathedral (1973), The Way Things
Work
(1988) and The New Way Things
Work
(1998).

1>Somewhere over
the Mammoth(light빛과 렌즈)
박사의
작업실에서 유리 트로피 닦는 일을 도와주던 트로이는 하늘에 무지개가 뜨자 그 밑에 금 항아리가 있다는 옛날 얘기를 사실로 오해하고 금을 찾겠다며
나가 버립니다. 올리브와 박사는 헛수고만 하고 돌아올 트로이를 찾기위해 빛의 성질과 유리를 이용해 특별한 망원경을
만드는데요...

2>The sound of a Mammoth (sound소리의
원리)
섬 주민들은
목초지를 찾아 메머르떼를 몰고 협곡을 지나다가 협곡에 올려퍼진 브렌다 아줌마의 재채기 소를에 메머드들이 놀라 전부 달아나고 말아요. 브렌다는
골짜기에서 직접 소리를 질러보고 왜 매머드가 도망을 갔는지 생각을
합니다.
주민들은
어떤 과학적인 원리를 이용해서 매머드들을 찾아낼수 있을까요?

이 dvd는 영한대본이 없나봐요.
그래서 dvd를 보면서
어려운 단어들이 나오거나 핵심내용인 부분은 틈나는대로 자막을
적어봤어요.
dvd는 이렇게
시작하고요.
My workshop on
Mammoth island was involved with all kinds of activity,
including the
manufacture of glass trophies.
Sadly, this
was not the most successful of ventures,
due to the
large number of breakages we had in the workshop.
Yes, I'm sure they do,

That's because they are shaped
like the lenses in this telescope.
Nah, this doesn't make it any better at all. Nope, nor
this one.
Hey, wait a
minute.
Looking through both of them
does the trick! Excellent!
Lenses
are indeed very useful things.
We have
them in our eyes for a start, enabling us to see images
correctly.
They are also used for
spectacles, magnifying glasses, cameras, all sorts of
things.
What Olive had come up with,
however, was the basis of the telescope.
Ordinary refracting telescope use one large objective
lens to form the image,
A smaller convex
lens that turns the image upthe right way,
and an eyepiece lens to magnify and view the
image.
Nope. Even with this
telescope I can't see where he's gone.
I see what's
happening.
a most
intriguing phenomenon, caused by the way light behaves.
You see, when
light rays enter and leave transparent materials,
like our
crystal trophies, they refract, or bend.
Light rays
coming from a distant object, in this case Brenda,
are bent by
the lens and meet on a surface, in this case the shirt.
But in doing
so, rays from the top and bottom of the object cross
over,
turning the
image they form upside down.
Do you think that would work better?
Binoculas are a bit different from telescopes
though.
They have a pair of prism
between the objective lens and the eye-piece.
These reflect the light inside the binoculars, so the
whole arrangement is more compact and you see an upright non-reversed
image.
Also, because the object lenses
are now futher apart than you eyes, thr 3D effect is improved.
Oh wow! These are
amazing!
I can see the sea birds way off
the ocean. I can even see Diniosaur island.
looks like they'er having a party too.
Burgers, no, hot dogs and
everything.
So it is
!
Caused, if you look behind
you,
by light passing through that tropy by the window, that glass crystal
has split the light up into the seven colors of the rainbow. Red, orange,
yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet.
Actually,
it's call a periscope.
The light goes in
that end, bounces off one mirror, hits s second mirror then comes out this
end.
이번 dvd는 공부한다 생각하고 만든 스크립트를 출력해서 열심히
보았답니다.

저두 타이틀 송 한글 자막보고,,딱 이 DVD를 제대로 설명해주는 곡이라고 생각했어요.
샤나도 그 노래 좋아하며 흥얼 흥얼,,ㅎㅎ 전 진행기 올릴때 DVD 사진 캡쳐하느라 타이틀 송을 무한 반복 듣게도 되었네요.ㅎㅎ
빛과 렌즈는 초등 과학에서도 참 어려운 원리인데요. 흥미로우면서도,,아주 잘 설명되어 있는 것 같네요.
